Community Volunteers Needed for Annual Point-In Time Homeless Count

(Jackson County, OR) – Each year the Housing and Urban Development Administration (HUD) grants Jackson County funds for local programs that help homeless individuals and families. In return, HUD requires regions that receive these funds to conduct an annual, one night, Homeless Count (Point-In Time Survey) to use for planning and evaluation purposes. The Jackson County Homeless Task Force oversees the count each January. Member teams and community volunteers will be at several locations to conduct the annual Point-In Time Count from Monday, January 23 through Sunday, January 29. 

“Local agencies serving our homeless community have come a long way helping our neighbors move off of the streets, out of shelters, and into permanent housing. We all strongly believe that helping one part of community succeed helps our entire community succeed,” says ACCESS Support Services Director, David Mulig. “Community involvement is a resourceful way to meet local needs. We need to work together, with the community, in making this Homeless Count matter.” 

Here are some great ways you can help: 

1. Volunteer – During daylight hours, participate at a Service Location Count (starts Tuesday, January 24 and continues through Sunday, January 29, 2017).

a. Volunteers are encouraged to attend at least one training session at the Olsrud Family Nutrition Center located on the ACCESS campus at 2020 Cardinal Avenue in Medford (training held on Wednesday, January 18 at 3:00 p.m., and Thursday, January 19 at 2:00 p.m.).

2. Volunteer – Help put together Swag Bags on Friday, January 20 (starts 2:00 p.m. until finished)

3. Team Members – Conduct Shelter & Camp Count with Team Leaders (Monday, January 23, 2017, starting at 4:00 p.m.). 

4. Team Members – Conduct Service Location Count (starts Tuesday, January 24 and continues through Sunday, January 29, 2017).

The Jackson County Homeless Task Force is a network of various agencies working together to bring resources and solutions to homeless individuals and families, and to help prevent and end homelessness.
